Hi, I would suggest you to go to the manufacturers website in the link below install the said drivers in compatibility mode and see if it works: Here are the steps to run a program in compatibility mode: Open the Program Compatibility troubleshooter by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Programs, click Run programs made for previous versions of Windows.

System

This model and Operating System is not supported by Dell. See instructions on using the Microsoft Update Catalog and install drivers via the Device Manager.

Follow the instructions in the troubleshooter. If you cannot install a program, insert the installation disc for the program and, using the troubleshooter, browse to the program's setup file, usually called Setup.exe, Install.exe, or something similar. The troubleshooter is not designed to work on programs that have an.msi file name extension.

Please respond back with the status of the issue and let us know if you have any issues. Azam – Microsoft.

I have 4 new Dell Inspiron 6400's here at my work, we ordered 4 brand new ones, 2gb of memory and they all had Vista on them, so we have to wipe them and put WindowsXP Pro on them so they have domain support for our company. They are sweet laptops, but the only problem im having is with them now that i have Windows XP installed and all the drivers i found on Dell's site. I have 3 unknown devices that show up in the Device Manager under 'Other devices' They all say Base System Device and i cant figure out what they are and why they have a conflict. The device status says that the device drivers are not installed. Click to reinstall, but i have installed everything i thought Everything else runs fine on them. Any idea what this 'Base System Device' may be?
